Basic Grammar
We don’t expect your child to know anything about grammar. Most books and classes begin after the introduction to grammar. We start at the definition of a definition and go from there, win-by-win. Your child will have a new, organized collection of grammar terms, grammar rules, grammar history, punctuation rules, alphabet handwriting exercises, and knowledge of basic rhetoric skills that they will be gathering themselves from scratch with each lesson. There are no ‘test’s other than their own ability to communicate clearly, logically, and persuasively. Art is the highest form of achievement, not high test grades. (Excelling at college entrance exams is a natural by-product of knowing grammar themselves, but it is not our focus.)
In this class we cover:
1. Basic parts of speech.
2. Basic parts of a sentence.
3. Basic punctuation.
4. The history of the English language, both oral and written.
5. Basic history of the Latin language.
6. Basic history of the alphabet.
Classes start at $10 per 1/2 hour.
Basic Descriptive Writing
In this course, we discover the development of one’s own writing voice by examining clear examples of classic authors and applying easy to understand rhetorical devices. The only expectation in this course is to write a lot without the stress of ‘perfection’. Greatness is achieved in the act of writing itself. The more you write, the better you will get. In time, your voice will shine through and people will wonder how you can articulate your perspective with such ease and eloquence. This course will put you on that path to writing excellence.
Physical Education
All of the ancient schools in Athens included physical exercise and competition. The Hellenic Greeks started the Olympics (in Olympia, Greece) in honor of Zeus, the god of life. They honored the mind and the body and believed excellence in both required each other. If you go to any high school in America, you will still find a track where they run the same type of competitions they had in Olympia, Greece, thousands of years ago.
It is imperative that the next generation be challenged physically to help their minds grow. We offer a simple pdf of exercises and timed competitions where they can ‘compete’ with their own best times. Prizes will be awarded for excellence. Our founder is 46 years old and is able to do 65 pull-ups and 10 sprints 3x a week. Exercise honors life.
